Day 174: Kruidnoten

Monday, September 21st, 2009

I gave this post a Dutch title, as I’m not aware of an English translation for this typically Dutch treat. They’re like very small little cookies (about 2cm wide), and officially they belong to the Dutch Saint Nicholas fest, which is a celebration of St Nicholas’ birthday, on the 5th of December. Each year they’re being sold earlier than the previous year though, just like Christmas stuff. (I often wonder how long it will take before Christmas sales will start directly after Easter)

A photo from last Tuesday.

Day 169: Dark pink

Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

This is the same brand of flower as 2 days ago, and I still don’t know its name. Although I didn’t alter the colours in either of these two photos, the result is quite different, due to difference in lighting and camera settings. The other one was taken in daylight, this one in lamp light. The real colour of the flower is dark pink or even purple, but dark enough to be close to red. (I’d stick a petal on this blog for comparison if I could, but alas – can only take pics ;-))

Day 167: Open red

I have no idea what this flower is called, but I liked how looking directly in its heart, shows the green sepals through the spaces between the petals. Only sharpened and cropped it.

Day 165: Red abstract

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

The yellow/orangy bit on the right, is a red IKEA lamp, the red in the middle is a white painted wall, and the diagonal red lines on the big black space, is the reflection of the lamp, on the side of a computer monitor. See also the previous photo for slightly more context.
